Rebadged Alder Lake CPU higher priced in early retail listings than new Arrow Lake chip.
In an incredible twist, the early retailer listings suggest that Intel's rebadged Alder Lake processors may hit the market at a higher price than their new-generation counterparts.
The CPUs in question are the Intel Core 5 120 and Core 5 120F, which have been sighted at $246 and $216, respectively. It is considered that both chips are based upon Alder Lake architecture, albeit older, even if they are relabeled for sale alongside the upcoming Arrow Lake lineup.
The strange thing is that these rebadged chips are trading at a price higher than some preliminary listings for actual Arrow Lake processors, which we assume will deliver architectural enhancements and offer greater efficiency with more performance per watt, given the benefits of Intel's latest process node and design optimizations.
Why It Matters
It seems Intel has decided on renaming some of the old silicon to fill the void in its lower-end market or to balance out existing inventory. Nevertheless, with these prices being higher than expected, truly price-conscious buyers may shy away from something that is about to be dethroned by newer Arrow Lake CPUs, which are surely expected to provide superior performance for a lesser price.
